Carol
Wyche - (Crocheting, Dyeing, Knitting, Spinning, Weaving)
Carol
has been a knitter for over 40 years and a spinner for 20
years. She learned to spin when she couldn’t easily
find very fine yarns for knitting lace, and then fell in
love with spinning as a separate art in itself. She has
spun wool, silk, llama, alpaca, mohair, cotton, angora rabbit,
and all sorts of blends. She creates anything from wild
designer yarns to very simple yarns and has taught herself
dyeing and knitwear design in order to use her handspun.
She learned to weave as an extension of spinning and has
made shawls and scarves of her own handspun, both weft and
warp. She is active in the Weavers and Spinners Society
of Austin, the Contemporary Handweavers of Texas and the
Knitters and Crocheters Guild of Austin, and has taught
and demonstrated the crafts of spinning and knitting numerous
times. She is now retired, but was an adult education teacher
for most of her professional life. Teaching her craft was
a natural step. Creativity is very important in our lives
and there isn’t much opportunity for it in most people’s
lives. Spinning and knitting or weaving can provide that
opportunity for many. Carol has taught beginning spinning
to individuals and groups both in her home and in a variety
of workshops and retreats and is happy to have the opportunity
to teach more folks at the Old Oaks Ranch Fiber Arts Center. |
