Class Description: This is a comprehensive 3 day evening class, taught on floor looms or table looms (re: availability), from start to finish. 111108 - Bat Wing Wrap-5 days
Sandra Doak
Tuesday - Saturday, November 11-15, 2008
Plus, 1 hr. on a follow up day for sewing directions TBA with student.
10-4 each day (Thurs. until 8pm) (1/2 hr. lunch BYO)
$160 + $ 25 studio fee. Plan to shop according to your preferences of yarn for this project. Beginners Level: Should know how to make a warp, dress a loom and have had some previous weaving experience. Not a learning to weave class.

Sandra will help you choose the right fibers to complete a successful “Bat Wing Wrap” (how appropriate for the Austin area). This is a classic style that can be worn year round. This project is plain weave construction with emphasis on color and texture. You will make a warp and dress your loom using a pre-calculated project plan and weave off your project. I have included two studio days plus extended hours on Thursday until 8pm to work independently for extra threading or weaving time if needed. There will be a discussion on finishing and care for your new garment. You will take your woven fabric home and hand wash. Each student will schedule a follow up sewing hour, to be shown how to join the woven fabric, using a sewing machine, to make your “Bat Wing Wrap”. No cutting involved! You can use this almost invisible and reversible sewing method many times over to join most hand-woven fabrics.
*Bring: Note book and pen to take notes and a basket of any weaving supplies/tools that you prefer using, though we will have everything on hand. Dress for casual comfort.
Class maximum: 5 students
