Sharon Carter - (Weaving)
Sharon has a long rewarding history as a nationally competitive weaver, painter, muralist, illustrator, cartoonist, and teacher. She launched the weaving part of her career in the 70’s following an intensive summer of fiber love at The University of Texas and earned a BA in Fine Arts. Angora goats inspired her first “Hairy Hanging” which was selected for show in the National Textile Museum in Washington, DC. Eighteen years of daily weaving for shows and galleries and commissions around the country included awards from the State of Hawaii and The Mannings, Hollywood folk, and a Miss Texas. As an artist, she is a nationally published illustrator, and has even designed Aloha Shirts for the NFL (inc. the Dallas Cowboys!). She has taught weaving and art for over 30 years.
“Great Grandpa A. H. Carter and his 9 brothers settled the Austin area in the 1860’s, and although I have spent 26 years living on Maui and The Big Island, I think roots is why I keep coming back to Texas! Wimberley is now home, God willing!” |
