Making the Yarn and Pattern Obey You

Class Description:
Love the yarn, but there’s no pattern...?

Love the pattern, but can’t get the yarn...?

Learn to work with the yarn or pattern you have! This is a baby step towards learning to design for yourself.

We will discuss: choosing a suitable pattern for the yarn you love. Choosing a suitable yarn for the pattern you love. Figuring out the proper gauge for the yarn you have. Modifying the pattern gauge to suit your yarn. Working out how much yarn you need. Working out how much yarn you have. What to do if there isn’t enough!

Yes, there will be math, but calculators will be allowed, and formulas will be simple, so it’s okay.

Prerequisites or Class Prep: Bring: the yarn you want to use, or pattern you don’t have yarn for, note paper, calculator, a variety of knitting needle sizes, a ruler or yarn gauge and a needle gauge.

Fee: $50

Knitted Cable Wrap by Louisa Harding (learn to read a chart!)

Wednesday Nov. 17 11am-1pm

Class Description:
A great little wrap with easy cabling, using a chart only. Knits up fairly quickly using bulky yarn.

Prerequisites or Class Prep: Advanced beginner. Know how to cast on and off, and how to knit and purl. Cabling will be taught.

The Knit Wits Circle

Every Friday 10AM-12PM

Class Description:
All knitters are invited to join this ongoing group: We will develop technical skills and friendships. Set aside YOU-time each week for re-CREATION! Work on your own projects and knit items for the preemie and cancer wards at the new Seton Medical Center Hays being built in Kyle. Bring your lunch and stay after if you wish! Reserve by the month or call ahead each week to reserve your seat.

Prerequisites or Class Prep: Ability to knit or crochet, or you have in the past and need to be reminded!

Class Level: Beginner - experienced

Every Thursday 2-4 PM

Class Description:
Ongoing class: Bring your knitting or spinning and sit and chat! Cary will be at the Ranch to provide guidance, support, or just to marvel over your beautiful work. Beginning to experienced knitters and spinners are invited to join the circle. Have a cup of tea and some chocolate (or, any munchies are always welcome)! We'd love to see you!

Prerequisites or Class Prep: Ability to knit or spin, or you have in the past and need to be reminded!

Fee: $10, or $35 per month

The Socktastics

Every Friday 2PM-4PM

Class Description:
Ongoing class: Beginning to experienced knitters are invited to join the circle. This group is for people who love to make socks or have always wanted to try. Socks is a wonderful small project that serves as a canvas to try all sorts of techniques: lace, cables, color work, intarsia for example. There are constantly new approaches to sock construction that will keep you on your toes! Make new friends and work on your projects/skills at the same time. Reserve by the month or call ahead each week to reserve your seat.

Prerequisites or Class Prep: Ability to knit, or you have in the past and need to be reminded!

Class Level: Beginner +

Fee: $35 per month or $10 per drop-in session
