Dawn Hummer

My family and I moved to Austin in 1996. Hailing from the deep south, I have lived in Florida, North Carolina and Florida, where I was a teacher for 15 years. More recently, I've enjoyed being a stay at home mom which has allowed me time to dabble in various mediums and art forms.

My love of color and texture in the natural world, has evolved from watercolor study to mixed-media collage to rug hooking. Although I purchased my first hook and backing from Fredericksburg Rugs 8 years ago, I didn't really get to hooking until I stumbled on a rug hooking store in Kirkwood, MO last summer. After spending an afternoon with the owner, I was "hooked". Since then, I have been on a mission to research and learn this wonderful primitive art form.

I am so thrilled with the opportunity to be a part of the creative talent at Old Oaks Ranch. It's my hope to broaden awareness of the limitless creativity and joy that is the art of rug hooking.
