By definition, rug hooking means pulling strips of fabric (traditionally wool) through a backing of cotton, burlap or linen to the surface to form a colorful design. We offer a variety of classes and a full range of wools and tools for all of your project needs.  

Rug Hooking 101:

Primitive Rug Hooking is a folk art which developed in The United States and the Canadian Maritime Provinces, in the mid-1800s. Born out of necessity, women used the scrap fabric around their homes for warmth and decoration.  Wool  and other scrap fabric was pulled through burlap feed sacks to create floor and bed coverings.  Today, we enjoy this primitive pastime in much the same way. However, there are many approaches to hooking in which you may learn through private lessons or specialty classes.

Primitive Rug Hooking:  Uses wider cuts of wool in a basic design.
Realistic or Traditional Rug Hooking: Uses finer cuts of wool for shading and more detail in rug design.
Pictorial Rug Hooking: Uses several cuts of wool to develop a picture or scene.
Waldoboro Rug Hooking: Uses wool strips on wool backing with sculpting techniques to give a 3-dimensional effect.
